Donations of Materials
So far we have received over 200 packages through the mail. They include donations of school supplies, books, clothing, quilts, medicines, daily use items, soaps and other hygiene materials, toys such as Chinese chess sets, balls, badminton sets. At first we thought it was a waste of money for people to donate things as frivolous as dolls. But then we saw how the children reacted to such a gift. They were overcome with happiness. This is the first time they've ever owned dolls and they go to sleep hugging them in their arms. Thank you very much for providing this laughter to our children!
Note to donors: It is important that we do not waste materials. We gratefully accept books that are fun to read, have a lot of pictures and impart wisdom in a simple way that is suitable for young children. If sending clothing, please send us clean, untorn items of natural fibres that are comfortable, sturdy and easy to wash. The weather here is harsh and the children are small. Right now we only need winter coats and heavy winter pants and long underwear, heavy socks and shoes for kids ages 6 and up.

Photo, Right: Here is the first group of boys and girls after they arrived at the small hotel in Zhong Dian. They've already received the first real showers they've ever had and are wearing donated clothing. Why do the girls also have short hair? Because some of them had matted hair and head lice.
Below, right: Some of the generous participants in the First Annual Batang Motorcycle Run. Organized by The Orchard Executive Chef, Jeffery Powell, the group raised about 8,000 rmb for the orphanage/school. You rock!

Thank you for making the decision to help sponsor children for up to ten years of schooling in Yunnan Province. At the start of this endeavor, we will not consider the outcome of these children ten years on; at this moment, we know that they have almost no chance to get an education if right now it is difficult for them to have enough food to eat and adequate clothing.
More than 100,000 ethnic Tibetans living in Yunnan, Sichuan, Gansu and Qinghai provinces are grateful for your help. More than 1,000 Tibetan Buddhist monks from some 14 temples are also thanking you for your kind hearts. We welcome those of you who have the time and desire to visit the school after it is built. We want to give a special thanks to those people who are not Buddhists. Your kind heart is instinctual, which is very precious. We greatly respect all of you. We wish you happiness in all things!
