About the Name of school:
----The name of the school is a transliteration from
the Tibetan language.---”senjimeiduo”
“Last September, I learned of the Batang Project. At that time,
OmKya temple in DeRong County of Sichuan invited me to host
a throne succeeding ceremony for lalong Living Buddha. Before
I arrived at the temple, I heard from the Lama that a nun is busy
setting up a school and enrolling Tibetan orphans. Naturally,
several questions come to my mind: I wondered who she was and
why she chose this far-away and poor place to establish a school,
how could she working non-stop for several days. On the next
day, I met her in the temple and we had a congenial talk. After
the talk, I knew her name is Libing, and learned that both of us
belonged to the same religious sect of Drikung Kagyu. She said
after she finished the registration of the orphans here, she would
like to meditate in seclusion. Coincidentally, I knew just an ideal
place for her to go and invited her to visit Founder Damo’s cave.
To my surprise, she made the visit after a month.
During these days, she told me a lot of information about the school.
As a Living Buddha, bringing the Tibetan orphans good luck and
hope is the goal I spend my whole life pursuing, therefore, I really
appreciate all of the volunteers who make a contribution to Tibetan
education. Furthermore, I believe any one who displays charitable
behavior will have good luck.
After several months, Libing asked me to give a name to the school.
I think every one in the world is born of a beautiful mind, as a result
of principal and secondary causes, the emotion shows impact on
one’s pure soul. So I hope that through the kind behavior of helping
others, the beautiful flower in people’s mind will come into bloom.
Senjimeiduo---- the compassionate and beautiful flower in mind----
I wish it can bloom in everyone’s mind
Put palms together. Good luck and happiness to you!Wish you all
the best!”

On May 23, 2006, the Education Bureau in Yunnan’s Di Qing Ethnic
Tibetan Prefecture Education Bureau officially gave us, the Sen Ji Mei
Duo Charity School, permission to break ground. On June 13, 2006,
the school was were granted official status as a legal charitable
organization. On June 22, 2006, we also received official status as a
private charity orphanage-school in the People’s Republic of China.
The Sen Ji Mei Duo Charity School is a non-profit school offering ten
years of free education, shelter, food and medical care for all students
attending the school.
Our mission: We seek to offer our students ten years of necessary and
practical education that will allow them to in future support themselves
and to improve the community in which they live.
Our School Education Plan:
From Year One to Year Four teachers will focus on providing students
with a basic education which includes the Tibetan language, Chinese
language, English language, Mathematics, Computers, Geography,
History, Music, Physical Education, Art, Environmental Protection,
Personal and Public Hygiene.
From Year Five, students will branch off into three vocations:
Option One: Tibetan Thanka Painting. This vocation employs the
ancient, traditional methods using natural stone pigments and painting
techniques.
Option Two: Health Care and Hygiene Professionals. Students will
study basic Tibetan Traditional Medicine and Western Medicine.
Graduates will eventually run much-needed clinics in remote,
mountainous areas where there is currently no health care and where
common health problems now threaten the lives of the population.
Option Three: Translators. Students will learn to translate the Tibetan
language to English and vice-versa, or choose to learn to translate
Tibetan to Chinese and vice-versa.
Our Future Goals:
It is our hope that a few of the students from the first graduating class
will choose to remain at the school to become teachers and school
managers with the aim of continuing the cycle of education and positive
change in the area.
We also hope that some of the children will also start their own clinics or
charity schools in these poverty-stricken areas.
With this in mind, we also seek to find companies or individuals who
would be willing to in future support such schools and clinics. The
former will need a larger amount of funding, while the latter will need
just one healthcare professional from our school to make a huge
difference in the general health of the chosen area.
A note on the Thanka painting school, which employs natural fibres and
natural stone pigments; our goal is to ensure this dying art, dating back
more than 1,500 years does, not disappear entirely from the region. We
have currently found two elderly teachers who are willing to pass on this
knowledge.
How the School Uses Donation Money:
The project currently uses donations for the building the School and
Dormitories. Previous efforts to use existing buildings donated by local
villagers or religious persons were thwarted for various reasons, which
later required us to build on donated land across the Mekong river from
Batang, Sichuan. We are now located in nearby Yunnan but will still
educate children in the poor Batang region.
Each child needs 180 rmb per month. This fee goes toward the
students’ food, tuition, teachers’ salaries, electricity bills, needed
medical care, etc. It must be noted that in talking with several
people about this fee, Chinese friends believe the price to be too
high, while foreign friends believe it to be too little. But we are not
sure if this money is enough to ensure the basic needs of the children.
If anyone would like to give more, this money would go towards a
funding for medical or other emergencies that are not covered in our
medical insurance plan.
